Part 9

After several hours of reading what seemed like hundreds of school documents I finally convinced James that it was time to look to the internet for help.
James really didn't mind Googling; he just needed to read those papers. His keen mind scans every detail, a lot of which would come in handy.
"Okay, here we go. What should I do first Si?" James asked as he watched me take a big bite out of my peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
Pulling a chair up close to James and the computer, I swallowed the big bite of sandwich trying to speak as I did, “How 'bout we start with his name."
James turned to look at me asking, “Should we use Norton Gibbs, or Norton Jones?" There was this look of great satisfaction on his face. He appeared to be thinking that we were going to be revealing a very deep hidden secret.
Taking a moment to look deep into his blue eyes, I thought for a second I saw a reflection of James soul. Then I remembered it was James sitting here next to me. “Well, let's try both. I'm sure there are 'bout five million Jones and Gibbs on the internet, but hey, what the hell." I answered smiling at him, as I took another bite of my sandwich.
"Okie, dokie, then let's see. We'll Google Norton Gibbs first." he typed in the name and waited for the response.
Yeap, just like I thought. The list of Norton Gibbs was over twenty pages. Looking at James I just said," R U crazy. If you want to look through all of these pages of names, man that's on you. I however have some Language Arts homework due tomorrow. How 'bout u look through all those pages and don't forget to look up Norton Jones. If we have time after your maybe, almost date with Hanna then we'll see what's up." I said with a big old grin on my face.
Standing up I picked up my book bag, slung it over my shoulder, and stuffed the last bite of my sandwich in my mouth as I slid the chair back under the table. “James I love a good mystery, but we have to be careful. There's Five-O everywhere on this case. Be a good friend and do your homework. We have important tests coming up soon," I shared my thoughts in hopes that he wouldn't get to obsessive about Norton.
James interrupted me in mid-stream, "Yeah, yeah, I know Si, but somehow this is more important, ya know?" he said with such a serious tone.
For a long minute I just stood there looking at him. There were no clear answers for me about this thing. James had a mind of his own and he certainly was using it. He was determined to find out about Norton, which meant everything.
That could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on what he found. I knew in my heart that there was nothing that was going to keep James from doing all that he could.
Chances were it would involve me as well.
