The streets all along Main
Street down to the cross roads of Market Avenue, Hummingbird Court, Eucalyptus
Way and Magnolia Vinings was jammed with townspeople, business associates, the
Major and his entire staff as well as residents from the whole town.
The police officers that had
been contacted by Mr. Johnson and a few of the other teachers were there to
help keep everyone safe. Invitations had been sent out via e-mail to every
business owner, every place of work and worship so as to have as many of the
existing residents here to celebrate this event.
Wood Berry's senior class had
sent e-mail to their own parents inviting them to come and participate in the
beginning of something uniquely design by them. This was going to be a once in
a lifetime experience for everyone that came to share this day.
Mr. Johnson and twenty-five
teachers from all different levels of teaching were standing in the parking lot
of Walmart. James, along with Mr. Johnson, Norton, Simone and the principal of
the high school had gotten special permission for the group to gather on the
premises.
In order for the parade to work,
the high school had taken on this project as a symbol of improving the
community at large. With the concept of reaching out to help other's in need
the entire school along with each specialize department had offer to join in.
The Wood Shop, Construction
Design class, Social and Family Values class, Home Economics, The Art
Department, the Band and Chorus, as well as Social and Civics future leaders
had all came together to lend a helping hand.
Norton had met with each
teacher in various departments of the high school explaining exactly what he
had done and why. This meant more to Norton than his very own graduation. He
pleaded with them to keep his secret until everything that he had hoped to
accomplish had been done. It meant that not even his parents should be told that
he was alive and well. He promised that he would reveal the reason behind such
a great undertaking.
Today was perhaps the biggest
single event to shape how every individual would look at the streets, alleys
and bridges in Wood Berry from this day forward.
After today's parade if people
in this town didn't take notice of those who were living without the simplest
of items, then there indeed was no hope for anyone.
Opening eyes and making room
in your heart is a simple task, but even then if you don't see the sorrow in
front of you how will it ever change?
