As always
the school hallways were jammed as students of every age and grade poured out
from classrooms like ants on a hill. The noise level was incredible as each
young person talked about all the stuff that seemed so important. I stood beside
James homeroom locker waiting impatiently for him to show up. We had fourth
period lunch, but had decided to spend it in the library "doing
research."
That wasn't exactly a lie, but on the other hand it wasn't exactly the truth. Our research involved searching for more info on Norton. Man, I was starving and this really sucked; giving up my lunch period to look for a fellow student that not even the PO-PO could find. How ridiculous this was right about now. Still, I couldn't figure out why the heck James was all fired up to solve this case, but he surely was and nothing was blocking his efforts to do so.
Looking down both of the long hallways my impatience was steam rolling to a higher degree. Brother, James was beginning to really piss me off and being hungry really didn't help. Finally, after standing at his locker for what felt like an hour he turned the corner and who of all people was fast on his hip, Hanna. Beautiful, long blond hair, sparkling blue eyes with lashes that didn't seem to have an end, YUCK!
I couldn't believe what I was seeing right about now. Her laughing at his every word and James looking down at her like he could just eat her up. I swear I thought I was going to puke and hopefully all over Hanna's see through silk blouse. That witchie-bitchie was climbing all over the one guy that I was madly in love with. OMG! This meant war, I thought as I produced the worse fake smile on earth as they stopped right in front of me, her giggly little self just look all that and then some. Gross.
"Hi Si, look who I found waiting on me at the end of Math." James smiled at me with a slight degree of devilishness.
Only briefly looking at me Hanna spoke as though the words could barely leave her mouth, "Oh hi Simone. I almost didn't see you there." she said keeping her eyes concentrated on James.
I held back my vomit in order to replied, "Hanna, hum." pausing a second I looked at James with a huge frown, "James, is this the research you were speaking about doing?'
Shaking his head he answered in his polite voice, "Oh no. Hanna just wanted to remind me of our date tonight." looking up at me he grinned a little as he continued, "You know the one I promise her we'd have after I visited her in the office Monday."
"Un-hun, I remember you saying something 'bout it." I answered listening at Hanna's irritating giggle. "Okay, so anyway, we doing research or what. I'm starving." Turning toward the library I headed down the hall away from this sickening scene.
James could do what ever he wanted to with sweet cheeks over there, but I was going to get something to munch on and wait for that craziness to go away.
Fifteen minute later James found me sitting on a bench outside the cafeteria eating chips and a tuna sandwich. I wasn't thinking of Norton or research or the big state evaluation test that were coming next week for seniors. Nope, I was thinking of ways to inflect bodily harm on one beautiful blond. Maybe this wasn't my best moment of thinking, but hey, I'm a teenager, so whatever.
Sliding next to me, James just appeared out of nowhere. He leaned his light brown head of hair on my shoulder, gazing into my eyes. I could see him smiling at me as he waited on me to respond. Man, he just knew how to push my buttons and it was so working right about now.
"What?" I said, not even looking at him. Hoping my tone told him just how irritated I really was with him and that was all I intend to say at the moment.
"So, aren't you gonna ask me?" he answer.
"Ask you what?" I replied sounding more frustrated than ever with him.
Leaning in closer he whispered, “About my supposedly date tonight with Hanna and hopefully another lead." he said sounding so proud of himself.
"Enough about that stupid date already. Are you going out with beauty queen or not?" I asked turning to look him square in those bright blue eyes. Crap, he was really pushing hard now and I was more pissed than ever.
James sat up straight, looked deep into my eyes and very seriously said, “Nope. No date, at least not with Hanna. I think there's something more important for us to do tonight. However," he said in that tone that I knew all too well, "it may require us doing a little investigating later on tonight." He seemed so proud of himself at the moment.
Not being able to resist his handsome charms I dared myself to ask the question he was waiting on, "What do I have to do and how late is late?" I said almost regretting asking him.
"So glad you asked. It's gonna be exciting Si. Just like Sherlock Holmes my dear Watson. Get ready for an exciting night." With that he stood up slinging his book bag over his shoulder holding out his other hand to assist me.
Looking up at the guy that I had adored for most of my life all I could do at that moment was to stick out my hand and go with the flow. How could I possibly be mad at the one person that believed in me, and believed in us?
Laughing as we walked to our next class James smiled at me only saying, " It's elementary my dear Watson, elementary."
