The sun had begun to rise as James
and Simone left his home heading out towards the meeting place. He had thought
about this event in his mind a thousand times since he and Si had found Norton
a couple of weeks ago. He sure hoped that everything went as planned,
especially for Norton's sake. He crossed his fingers that everyone was ready
for what was about to take place.
Si was quiet as she was deep in thought about
what was coming with today's event. Both she and James had explained to their
parents exactly what was going on. It wasn't easy asking her mom not to call
Norton's parents to tell them where he was or that he was alive. Parents just
worry like crazy about their children, but in this case it was so important for
that information to be revealed at a later time that day. Some things just have
to stay a secret at least for a little while.
James and Si both told their
folks about Norton's plan and why he was doing all of this. In the end, the end
does justify the means. There was something of great value that would come from
of all of this. Norton, James and Si had a plan and one that would work for the
benefit of others'.
James and Si stood in the middle of the road
looking at one another, no words being spoken at this time. They had planned,
schemed, met with people from the community and school. They had held meetings
with the seniors in their classes explaining everything that needed to be done.
They had had secret meetings at different person’s homes and in parking lots,
all the while trying to pull this event together.
Today was the day that it either all fell into
to place or they all crashed and burned. Either way they had given it their all
now there was nothing else that they could do.
Finally after several minutes of dead silence
James spoke, being as serious as he could, "Well, this is it. We've done
all that we can do. From this moment on we are at the universes' mercy. For
better or worse, here we go. You ready Si?"
Without thinking Si reached
out and took James right hand in hers', smiling she simply said, "You
betcha. Let's go kick some ass."
The sun light began to peak
over the horizon as two lone bodies travel down the long winding road to meet
up with more than one hundred students, school personnel, community leaders and
residents.
Today would mark a special
place in the new history of Wood Berry, one that hopefully would yield great
things for so many in need.
