Saturday morning had arrived.
Graduation week was only one week away and there had been an underlying buzz
all around the school. There was an over whelming sense that for the first time
since the newest Wood Berry High School had been built ten years ago that
something was very different. No one could exactly put their finger on what was
happening to create such a new atmosphere, unless you were part of the inner
circle.
Si sat on her bed looking out at
the house two houses below hers'. She could see James sitting at his computer
working on a few of the last minute details. She still wasn't sure of how he
felt about her since their last unusual exchange two weeks ago. Hopefully if
all went well she might have a whole different relationship with James after
they had finished school. For now, she would have to settle on the time they
spent working on the plans for the senior graduation parade. Norton was
counting on her and James to help pull this whole event off.
After sitting on her bed for
thirty minutes just watching James, Si finally decide that she just needed to
go down to his house and meet with him before they left for the big group
meeting. Her stomach had knots in it as she left her house heading in James’
direction. There was so much going on right now and she had never experienced
this kind of awkward feeling before. More than anything in the world she wanted
James to be proud of what they were accomplishing their last year in high
school. Whatever did or didn't happen after the parade and graduation was
completely out of her hands.
James
met Si at the door before she could even knock. He was so glad to see her and
the parade that they were attempting to pull together was only one of the
reasons for his feeling so good. Smiling at her James spoke with a sense of
joy, "Well now, my favorite person in the whole universe. You ready to see
how good we are together?"
Si smiled back understanding
that James seemed as happy to see her as she was to see him. Replying, "I
know how good we are, did you have to question that at all?" Turning back
to the street she moved out of James way as he joined her on the side walk.
“No. I'm not questioning
anything about what we've managed to get done. So, let's get going, Mr. Johnson
and the others will be worrying and we don't want to keep anyone waiting on
this beautiful Saturday, do we now?" James let out a little laughter as he
bowed in front of Si letting her go first.
It was moments like these that made Si know
that she and James were meant for each other. There are so few times in a
persons' life when you get the chance to meet that one special somebody and
know it with all of your heart. Right now the parade was only one part of why
Simone felt so good over all. James was the biggest reason that Si knew this
adventure was going to work.
If you have to risk so much
about yourself in order for others' to see the horrible way that so many
unforgotten people in your community live, then risk it big. Other wise it
defeats the purpose of what you need to accomplish. Then and only then can true
and positive change occur.
